The History of East Greenwich, 1677-2027

To commemorate the 350th anniversary of the town’s founding, EGHPS historian Matthew Carcieri has produced the first chronological, fully illustrated history of East Greenwich. Presented in a six-part timeline, the book’s 92 sections capture the arc of the town’s evolution. They describe:
• The devastating war between the Indigenous people and the English colonists that led to the town’s founding
• The town’s outsized contributions to the Revolutionary War
• The transformation that occurred during the Industrial Revolution, when multiple cotton-spinning mills occupied the village
• The postwar suburban migration that made the town what it is today

Shaped by sweeping national changes and seismic events, East Greenwich is a storied town. Join in celebrating EG’s 350th anniversary by delving into its rich stories.
All proceeds from this book benefit the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society.
